Thank you for visiting the North American Fire Training Director (NAFTD) webpage. NAFTD is made up of state, provincial, and territorial fire training directors from the United States and Canada. Each year our members collectively provide training to over one million career and volunteer fire service professionals. Our main objective is to ensure that communities and their residents enjoy the protection of a well-trained and educated fire-rescue force.

Our member organizations are involved in the training, education, and certification of fire fighters, fire officers, fire investigators, fire inspectors, apparatus operators, and many other fire service professionals.Â Our organizations' personnel serve on professional standards committees of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). NAFTD is also directly involved in both the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) and the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board), which are the recognized accrediting bodies for fire service training and education.
Partnerships are essential to NAFTD, and we are privileged to maintain strong relationships with the U.S. Fire Administration National Fire Academy, the Congressional Fire Service Institute, FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program, the National Wildfire Coordinating Group, the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation, and many other peer organizations.
